Thea Ennen
& The Algorhythms

Thea Ennen is an artiste in every sense of the word. She's a piano-playing singer/songwriter who also writes poetry and prose; draws and sculpts; and designs and crafts jewelry and clothing for theatre companies, herself, and others. She's a new-folk, country-rock chanteuse who also creates and performs exquisite and heartfelt songs for which she has garnered considerable acclaim. Althought Thea has been a regular solo and duet performer on the Midwest coffeehouse and college scene for ten years, Thea Ennen & The Algorhythms didn't take shape until 1993, when they were recognized as one of the Twin Cities' best new bands in the City Pages Annual New Music Poll. As a band, their music has been likened to Fairport Convention, Pentangle, Uncle Tupelo, The Jayhawks, and Cowboy Junkies. Their 1994 independent release, All Aboard, was honored as Minnesota's Folk Recording of the Year at the 9th annual Minnesota Music Awards -- no small feat in the land of Bob Dtylan, "Spider" John Koerner, Leo Kottke, Ann Reed, Larry Long, and a host of other nationally recognized foldk artists.

This year, Thea Ennen & The Algorhythms are right on track again with their new album, Hold Back the Sun, a quiet and personal, but richly textured and rewarding collection of recordings.
